Union General Hospital Auxiliary Fills a Need

Karen Birt, Union General Hospital Auxilian and Cancer Center Volunteer brought a special need to the attention of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary. Patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Georgia Center for Total Cancer Care located on Deep South Farm Road were in need of lap trays; an important aid to having a flat work surface for their lunch, snacks, beverages or magazines during their treatments.

The Auxiliary voted to purchase these trays, which provide a comfortable eating area and/or a convenient workspace. They have a removable non-slip mat on an easy rollout tray; both the tray and cup holder are dishwasher safe.

So far twelve Lapp Topper Trays® have been delivered.

“The patients, their families, volunteers and staff are delighted with the donation from the Auxiliary,” states Lisa Lanham, RN, Clinic Manager.

Claudia Parks, Union General Hospital Auxiliary President, recently visited the center and talked with Ms. Lanham about the scope of the service that was rendered to such a large area—patients come from Andrews, Murphy, Hayesville, North Carolina and Copper Basin, Tennessee and of course the North Georgia area.

“We service 75-100 patients daily in combination with the Radiology/Radiation and the Chemotherapy division”, said Lanham. “What an impressive visit at the center and with the staff. We can all feel fortunate to have this facility located in Blairsville,” acknowledges Parks.
